I read a quote today by Elisabeth Kubler-Ross… “People are like stained-glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within.”
Is there a light within me? A light illuminating the darkness surrounding me?
For some, these are dark days. Foreclosures, bankruptcy, high unemployment… unsettling to say the very least. People are looking for answers, looking for a “way”, looking for a lighted path. We can either fear the dark, close our shutters, keep the light from escaping… or we can share the light. Throw open the windows, allowing the light to vanquish the encroaching darkness. Let the light pierce through the darkness and ultimately destroy it.
“This little light of mine… I’m going to let it shine…” The Sunday School song resonates even truer today than it did many years ago when I wore a younger man’s clothes. Only now, I realize the light within isn’t so little, and it’s much too bright to hide under a “bushel”. I’m letting it shine, shine, shine.
The light of Jesus within, without, fully encompassing, fully powerful, fully available. Let it shine.
