… a new year, a reliable fortress…

Psalm 28 says, “The Lord is the strength of His people, a fortress of salvation.”  The name used for God in this passage refers to the Lord of Hosts, the Lord Almighty.  The Lord who comes with the power that raised Christ from the dead and seated Him again on the throne.  The Lord who has already defeated Satan by conquering death.  This is the Lord we worship.  This is the Lord who is our mighty fortress. This is the Lord who holds our future!

A mighty fortress is our God,
A bulwark never failing;
Our helper He amid the flood,
Of mortal ills prevailing!

…Did we in our own strength confide,
Our striving would be losing,
Were not the right man on our side,
The man of God’s own choosing.
Dost ask who that may be?
Christ Jesus, it is He,
Lord Sabaoth His name,
From age to age the same!
And He must win the battle!
